Sandustry Planter Box Designs

A Planter Box design should deliver Seed and Water separately, combine them into Wet Seed, and give each Wet Seed reliable contact with the box. Flower destruction produces Gold and drifting Amethelis, so collect the heavy Gold below while guiding the wisp-like Amethelis toward its energy-processing route.

Prepare Wet Seed before planting

The Kinetic Press supplies Seed from Burnt Residue. One Seed becomes one Wet Seed when it contacts one Water pixel, so a controlled wetting pocket prevents unused Water from flooding the growing area and makes the arrival rate easier to diagnose.

Prepare Wet Seeds in a separate contact chamber and feed a counted batch. Seed and Wet Seed should never share an unlabeled reserve because only the prepared material is the documented Planter Box input. Add a stop before the box so a blocked growth area cannot consume the entire upstream inventory while you inspect it.

Version 0.5.6 makes the ratio explicit: one Wet Seed becomes exactly one Flower. Record the input count and keep nearby spare seeds outside the growth reach. If the Flower appears to continue spreading, inspect the surrounding Wet Seeds; the official patch note explains that nearby inputs are being consumed rather than created for free.

Record Water consumption separately from Wet Seed delivery. A full upstream chamber can hide a leak or an uneven feed, while an empty chamber does not identify whether Water or Seed was missing first. Observe both inputs during the same interval and leave room to recover a sample without opening the planter.

Keep a single-seed test route beside the production box. After an update, it can confirm wetting, growth, output position, and the one-to-one Flower rule before the main reserve is exposed. A small reference cell also distinguishes a machine change from a blockage unique to the production geometry.

When integrating with the Kinetic Press, buffer Seed before wetting and Gold on its own path. The Press output and Planter input operate at different physical boundaries; connecting them directly can let a Flower-side backup reach the Gold collection area. A controlled handoff preserves both diagnostics.

After the first stable harvest, compare Wet Seeds consumed with Flowers produced and inspect the pass-through lane for Gold and Amethelis. Repeat once after reloading. Keep the recovery route reachable so a future patch or burst can be tested without exposing the full seed reserve. Record the batch size, output destination, and version beside the design so later ratios can be compared under the same controlled conditions.

Grow and harvest Flower

Wet Seed grows into Flower when it contacts the Planter Box. Burning or destroying a mature Flower releases Gold and Amethelis. The box allows both outputs to pass through, which supports a collection chamber directly below instead of a wide transfer line.

Give every Flower clear formation space and a collection path that does not push output back into the box. Keep player or tool access along one side. When a seedling is stuck in v0.5.6, shooting or digging can return a Wet Seed, and a stuck seedling eventually gives up. Pause the feed before recovery so the same cell does not fill again.

Commission the design with one seed, then a small repeated batch, and finally a normal burst. Observe where the Flower settles, how long the output stays clear, and whether the box accepts the next input after a save reload. Scale the collector only after the same boundary limits two clean runs.

Separate Gold from Amethelis

Gold is exceptionally dense and should fall toward a Collector, while Amethelis is a low-density wisp that drifts as it descends. Give the latter a broad capture path leading toward a Steam Dryer, and keep both outputs away from the Wet Seed feed.

The official Planter Box page identifies Gold and Amethelis as the solids that pass through. Build a visible pass-through lane and keep other loose solids away from the structure. If a foreign material occupies a cell, clear it before changing the Wet Seed feed or assuming that the planter's recipe changed.

Amethelis movement differs from an ordinary falling solid, so widen its capture area and prevent it from drifting back toward Wet Seed storage. Gold should reach a distinct collection route. Do not recombine the streams immediately after separation; a shared pocket hides whether the Planter Box or the downstream collector caused a loss.

Use three inventories during a long run: Wet Seeds waiting, Flowers collected, and pass-through valuables delivered. Compare all three at fixed intervals. A larger seed buffer only delays a growth or output bottleneck; a stable design keeps the growth space clear and makes each product's destination independently serviceable.

Troubleshooting

  • Seed reaches the box but no Flower grows

Verify that the Seed contacted Water and became Wet Seed before it reached the Planter Box.

  • Amethelis escapes the collection path

Widen or enclose the capture area because Amethelis is a drifting wisp rather than a normally falling solid.
