Sandustry Mods and Steam Workshop Guide

Sandustry officially supports modding and Steam Workshop sharing for visual changes, handcrafted maps, buildings, production chains, and larger overhauls. Prefer the Workshop entry attached to the official Steam app, read each item's supported version and dependencies, back up important saves, and recheck compatibility after game updates.

Start with the official Workshop

The Steam store lists Workshop support, and the developer describes modding for visuals, maps, new buildings, processing methods, production chains, and total-overhaul work. Starting from the game's official Steam page keeps discovery tied to the correct application rather than an unverified download mirror.

Check compatibility and dependencies

Before subscribing, read the item's update date, supported game version, required dependencies, load-order notes, and author instructions. Early Access changes may alter data or scripts; a popular item can still be incompatible with the build currently installed on your PC.

Protect a working factory

Back up valuable saves before adding, removing, or updating content that changes materials, buildings, maps, or production recipes. Change one major item at a time, open a disposable test world first, and retain the previous configuration until the factory loads and processes materials correctly.

Troubleshooting

  • A save stops loading after a game update

Compare every subscribed item's supported version and dependencies, then test a backup with recently changed mods disabled.

  • A Workshop item appears installed but adds nothing

Read its activation and load-order notes, confirm required dependencies, and test it in the game version named by its author.
